We want our players to SMILE and so these are the values we promote and give recognition for when our players demonstrate them.
Our Values
Show respect
Make friends
Improve
Learn
Enjoy
Our vision is to create an environment that encapsulates the spirit of football and the lessons that sport can teach.
Our mission is to enhance player’s love for the game, through positive and fun training sessions, whilst providing them with the opportunity to play in organised matches.
Our Ethos
and the power of play!
Our sessions are delivered through a Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) approach.
What is it?
TGfU is an educational approach that emphasises understanding the tactical and strategic aspects of games over solely focusing on technical skills
Why do we use it?
We believe that the TGfU approach fits our clubs ethos perfectly. Through a focus on play our coaches are able to teach key concepts, whilst also fostering players love for the game.
How do we implement it?
Coaches follow a training curriculum, which provides players with the key concepts we feel they need to learn across the season. These are then delivered through the following training session structure:
0-20 mins - Arrival matches (small sided)
20-40 mins - A focus on a specific concept (challenge)
40-60 mins - Final matches (free play)
What are the benefits?
Players understand the game as a whole, including tactics and strategies
Players learn to make informed decisions about when and how to execute skills
Technical skills are learned and refined within the context of the game
Improved collaboration, teamwork and communication skills
TGfU builds resilience as players learn to accept failure and problem solve to overcome challenges, increasing self-esteem and confidence
